Prizewinner at the 2017 Michael Hill International Violin Competition

In June 2017, Sumina visited New Zealand for her first major international violin competition.  Supported by the Becroft Foundation, she was awarded 5th prize and the audience prize in Auckland, New Zealand. 
"I think [Sumina] has a great future...", Sir Michael Hill said.

This year's competition jury consisted of Pamela Frank (USA), Ilya Gringolts (Russia/UK), Dong-Suk Kang (South Korea), Visa-Matti Leppanen (Finland/New Zealand), Silvia Marcovici (Romania), Dene Olding (Australia), Krysztof Wegrzyn (Poland/Germany) and chair of jury, Dr. Robin Congreve (New Zealand).

Founded by Sir Michael Hill in 2001 as the "Michael Hill World Violin Competition", the "Michael Hill International Violin Competition" is a biennial violin competition for violinists aged between 18 and 28. The competition was made with the wish to support New Zealand's cultural balance. "It is my dream that New Zealand will one day become a much more balanced society with not just wonderful sport - but also wonderful classical music", Sir Michael Hill stated.
